GRAND BAHAMA ATTRACTIONS
Lucayan
National Park

The park was established in 1982 after the discovery by scientist
Jill Yaeger of an unusual centipede-like organism swimming in the
underwater cavern system of the area. Further study revealed that
the tiny opaque animal was not only a new species (Speleonectes
lucayensis) but also a previously unknown class of crustacean which
was given the name Remipedia (meaning: oar foot). The Parks most
remarkable aspect is that it contains entrances to, and a portion
of, possibly one of the largest underwater cave systems in the
world.

Golfing

While some golfers may view the Atlantic Ocean as one great water
hazard, golfers know that championship fairways and greens are only
a chip shot away on Grand Bahama Island. The courses at Our Lucaya
Beach & Golf Resort, the Resort at Bahamia's Ruby and Emerald
courses and Fortune Hills Golf & Country Club offer golf
enthusiasts of all levels challenge and diversity in an ideal
setting. Go HERE for more info......
Parrot Jungle

One of the island's major attractions is this 12-acre (4.8
hectares) garden, which honors its founder, Wallace Groves, and his
wife, Georgette. Eleven kilometers (7 miles) east of the
International Bazaar, this scenic preserve of waterfalls and
flowering shrubs has some 10,000 trees, free-form lakes,
footbridges, ornamental borders, lawns, and flowers. Tropical birds
flock here, making this a lure for bird-watchers and
ornithologists. Go HERE for more info.........
FLOVIN ART GALLERY

This tiny, casual gallery displays beautiful artwork by local and
international artists. Purchase prints as well as original
paintings. Prices range from US$15 to US$3000. While some of the
art uses Bahamian motifs, some of it could be from anywhere in the
world. The seashell Christmas ornaments and the finely crafted
dolls are all handmade by the owner, a personable Bahamian woman.
If you're willing to spend a bit more than average for a true
Bahamian souvenir, skip the T-shirt stores and come to this
gallery.
BAHAMIAN TINGS ART GALLERY

Art aficionados appreciate this gallery for its continued
presentation of local artistic talent to the public. The gallery
features magnificent works influenced by West Indian culture and
Bahamian landscapes. While for the most part the pieces are not
avant-garde, there are nonetheless some breathtaking works here.
The sculptures, paintings, and other "tings" are imbued with much
imagination and island spirit. The variety of media is also
impressive. Prices are generally reasonable.
